Humanitarian Efforts and Coordination in Gaza

Crossing Closures for Aid Distribution

In line with the agreement reached with the US, Egypt, and the UN, Kerem Shalom and Nitzana crossings will be closed on Saturdays. This closure is aimed at facilitating the UN’s distribution of goods on the Gazan side of Kerem Shalom and the reception on the Egyptian side of Rafah.

Surge in Humanitarian Aid for April

During the month of April, there was a noticeable surge in the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza, complemented by ongoing international efforts to develop new aid routes into the region.

Distribution of Aid in Gaza

On May 4th, 223 trucks were distributed within Gaza by UN aid agencies. Out of these, 134 trucks contained food aid.

Airdrops on May 4

Airdrops were conducted, delivering 94 pallets containing tens of thousands of packages of food aid, coordinated with partner countries over northern Gaza.

Aid Coordination for Northern Gaza

Additionally, 63 aid trucks were coordinated to northern Gaza, comprising 50 from the private sector, 12 from the WFP, and 2 containing fuel.

Fuel and Cooking Gas Entering Gaza

On the same day, 4 tankers of cooking gas and 4 tankers of fuel, designated for the operation of essential infrastructure in Gaza, entered the region.

Coordination Requests and Approvals

During the coordination efforts on May 4, out of 27 general coordination requests, 26 (96%) were approved. Specifically, 11 UN requests for coordination were submitted, with 10 (91%) being approved. Furthermore, 10 requests for coordinations to northern Gaza were made, with 9 (90%) approved. Notably, since January 1, 2024, 88% of all coordination requests have been approved.

Operational Bakeries and Water Supply

Currently, 26 bakeries are operational in Gaza, providing close to 5 million breads, rolls, and pita breads daily. Moreover, 3,204 injured and sick individuals, as well as 725 escorts, have been evacuated from the strip. The northern water pipeline from Israel is now fully operational, providing an average of 50 liters per person per day.

Humanitarian Aid Movement Update

Today, May 5th, between 10:00 and 14:00, the IDF will pause operations in the El Amal neighborhood in Rafah, to facilitate the movement of humanitarian aid.
