Sergeant Gur Kehati, a 20-year-old from Nir Banim serving in the 13th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, fell in the line of duty while investigating an archaeological fortress in southern Lebanon.
He was accompanying Ze’ev (Zabo) Hanoch Ehrlich, a 71-year-old researcher and former Major in the reserve forces, who was familiar with the terrain of southern Lebanon and provided valuable expertise to the brigade operating in the region. While the two were surveying an ancient fortress near a mosque on a high ridge, they were ambushed by Hezbollah terrorists who had been hiding inside. In the ensuing firefight, both Sergeant Kehati and Ze’ev Ehrlich were tragically killed.
