182 trucks delivered vital aid to Gaza; more hospitals opening.

Humanitarian Aid Efforts in Gaza – January 2024

A total of 182 trucks carrying humanitarian aid, including food, water, medical supplies, and shelter equipment were inspected and transferred to the Gaza Strip yesterday (Jan. 9). 80 trucks inspected at Nitzana crossing were transferred to the Gaza Strip via the Rafah Crossing, and 102 trucks inspected and transferred to Gaza via Kerem Shalom. 153 (84%) of the trucks carried food, while the rest carried water, medical supplies, and shelter equipment.

Coordinated Humanitarian Aid Convoy

A humanitarian aid convoy, designated to UN shelters in northern Gaza, has been coordinated. Yesterday (Jan. 9), 4 tankers of cooking gas and 2 tankers of fuel designated for the operation of essential infrastructure in Gaza, have entered the Gaza Strip.

Support for Foreign Nationals

42 foreign nationals have been coordinated for exit from the Gaza Strip via the Rafah Crossing.

New Field Hospital in Southern Gaza

Following coordination and facilitation, a new field hospital in southern Gaza, operated by the International Medical Corps (IMC), has begun operating and accepting patients. With a capacity of 50 beds and a personnel of 200, the field hospital provides:

  • Surgical care for trauma
  • Physical rehabilitation
  • Emergency obstetric and newborn care
  • Advanced mental health services
  • And more.

Additional field hospitals are in the process, expected to be operational in the coming days. Additional equipment and personnel for the field hospitals operating in the Gaza Strip have entered the region.

Bakeries Reopening in Southern Gaza

2 additional bakeries have opened in southern Gaza. These bakeries join the 10 bakeries that have already resumed operations after the World Food Programme (WFP) supplied flour, sugar, salt, and fuel as necessary. At the current capacity, these bakeries can bake 2 million pita breads a day.

IDF Operations Pause for Humanitarian Aid Movement

Today (Jan. 10), between 10:00 and 14:00, the IDF will pause operations in A-Siech Mahmad Al-Yamini, Deir Al-Balach, central Gaza, in order to enable the movement of humanitarian aid.

Field Hospital Updates

The Jordanian hospital, with a capacity of 41 beds and a personnel of 154, has treated over 26,598 patients. The United Arab Emirates field hospital, with a capacity of 200 beds and a staff of 100, has treated over 1,393 patients. The Red Crescent hospital operates as an extension of the Al-Amal hospital, with a capacity of 64 beds and staff of 120, providing emergency services.

The IMC field hospital, with a capacity of 50 beds and a personnel of 200, has so far treated close to 500 patients, providing vital services such as surgical care and trauma rehabilitation. Additional field hospitals are currently in progress to enhance the medical response in the Gaza Strip.

French Floating Hospital Arrival

A French floating hospital has arrived at the Al-Arish port and will be docked there for a month. Gazan patients exit the Gaza Strip via the Rafah Crossing for treatment, and so far, over 1,500 patients have been treated and advised on the ship. The ship is expected to leave during January 2024.
