The UN recently labeled the explosions of Hezbollah-owned pagers and radios across Lebanon and Syria as a “terrifying violation of international law.” Yet, no civilians were harmed in these explosions—only devices in the hands of Hezbollah terrorists were targeted. This raises an important question: Why is the UN so quick to defend the assets of a terror organization, while consistently downplaying Hezbollah’s ongoing attacks on Israeli civilians?
Since October 2023, Hezbollah has launched thousands of rockets indiscriminately at Israel’s northern towns and cities, causing widespread destruction and terrorizing innocent civilians. The very organization whose equipment was targeted has made Israeli civilians its primary target, yet the UN’s focus seems to be on protecting Hezbollah’s military capabilities rather than condemning its terror tactics.
This selective outrage demonstrates the hypocrisy of the UN’s stance. While Israel firmly denies any involvement in the explosions, the focus should not be on the loss of equipment used by terrorists. Instead, it should be on Hezbollah’s flagrant violations of international law through their use of civilian infrastructure to shield their military operations and their deliberate targeting of Israeli civilians.
The fact that no civilians were killed or injured in these explosions only further highlights the absurdity of the UN’s statement. Where is the same level of concern when Hezbollah uses civilian areas to hide weapons and launch attacks? Where is the outrage when Israeli families are forced to live under the constant threat of rocket fire?
By defending Hezbollah’s military infrastructure while ignoring their war crimes, the UN continues to show its bias and double standards. It is time for the international community to recognize the real threat to peace in the region—terror organizations like Hezbollah—and to stand with Israel in its fight to defend its people from ongoing aggression.
