On October 7, Major Nati David Alfasi was no longer serving in an official capacity with his Paratroopers unit, having just completed his term as the Deputy Commander of Battalion 202. However, he immediately reported for duty, first fighting Hamas terrorists in the Israeli cities and towns near the border with Gaza and then in Gaza itself.
On January 22, in Khan-Younis, after the vehicle he and his soldiers were in was hit by an anti-tank missile, he ordered the soldiers to take shelter in a nearby building. Moments later, a second anti-tank missile struck the building, killing Nati and two other soldiers.
Soldiers who were with him during the incident said that he and the two other soldiers who stayed at the entrance took the brunt of the hit, thereby saving the lives of the other soldiers in the room.
