Matanya, from Sde-Ilan, was a soldier of Regiment 221 of the Carmeli Brigade. He was born in Beit-El and was a student at the “Regavim Ba’emek” boarding school. After his military service in the Golani Brigade, he chose to return to the boarding school as an instructor. Matanya became not just an instructor but also a friend and father figure to the students, sharing his experiences and wisdom.
When the war started, Matanya was enlisted for reserve duty on the northern border in the Carmeli Brigade. On October 11, he was killed by an anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon.
