Shai Ayeli was a cadet in the ‘Gefen’ Battalion of the Officers Training Academy and served as a combatant in the Combat Search and Rescue Extraction Unit 669.
The youngest son in his family, Shai was a resident of Ashkelon, a city near the Gaza Strip. Due to its proximity, Ashkelon is a frequent target of Hamas rocket attacks, so he was well-acquainted with living under the constant threat of such attacks. Before departing to help end this threat, Shai told his mother that he was going to fight so she could sleep peacefully at night. He fell in battle, courageously fighting Hamas terrorists in Northern Gaza.
