Shlomo Gurtovnik

Shlomo Gurtovnik was born on October 4, 2002 (28 Tishrei 5763) in Modiin, the son of Sophia and Alexander. He was the brother of Yosef and Avigail. Growing up in Modiin, Shlomo was known for his kind and dedicated nature.

Military Service and Sacrifice

On March 23, 2021, Shlomo enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and served in the Armored Corps. As a First Sergeant, he was part of Battalion 46 in the Iron Tracks Brigade. Shlomo fell in battle on November 18, 2023 (5 Kislev 5784), at the age of 21. He was laid to rest with full military honors at the military section of the Modiin cemetery, leaving behind his parents and two siblings.

Personal Interests and Aspirations

Shlomo was known for his love of literature, art, and films. He had dreams of becoming a screenwriter and had planned a significant trip abroad. His friends described him as a dedicated and compassionate individual with a passion for helping others.

Tributes and Legacy

Shlomo’s passing was a profound loss for his community, marking the third casualty from Modiin in a single week. His friend, Sergeant Jonathan Filo, remembered him as a selfless and humble person, always ready to support those around him. A memorial was established in his honor on Migdale David Street, near his childhood home, where residents can remember his legacy.

Modiin’s Mayor, Chaim Bibas, praised Shlomo for his courage and his commitment to helping his fellow soldiers. The street naming serves as a lasting tribute to a soldier with a golden heart and unwavering dedication.
