Crossing Procedures and Humanitarian Aid Delivery
In line with the agreement reached with the US, Egypt, and the UN, the Kerem Shalom and Nitzana crossings are closed on Saturdays. This is in order to facilitate the UN’s distribution of goods on the Gazan side of Kerem Shalom and the reception of goods on the Gazan side of Rafah.
Recent Developments
Yesterday, (Jan. 6) 4 tankers of cooking gas designated for the operation of essential infrastructure in Gaza have entered the Gaza Strip. Additional field hospitals are in the process, expected to be operational in the coming days.
Bakeries Resume Operations
10 bakeries in the Gaza Strip have resumed operations after the WFP has supplied flour, sugar, salt, and fuel as necessary. At current capacity, these bakeries can bake 2 million pita breads a day. Equipment for 4 WFP warehouses has entered the Gaza Strip. These warehouses are expected to be set up in the coming days and will better the logistic capacity of the organizations receiving humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
Humanitarian Aid Movement Protocol
Today, (Jan. 7) between 10:00 and 14:00, the IDF will pause operations in the Al-Salam neighborhood in Rafah, Southern Gaza, in order to enable movement of humanitarian aid.
Field Hospitals Updates
Field hospitals donated by Jordan and the United Arab Emirates are operational, treating patients in Khan Yunis and Rafah. A field hospital in Khan Yunis operated by the Red Crescent has begun accepting patients. Additional field hospitals are currently in progress to enhance the medical response in the Gaza Strip.
Hospital Capacities and Patient Treatment
With a capacity of 41 beds and a personnel of 154, the Jordanian hospital has treated over 600 patients. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates field hospital, with a capacity of 200 beds and staffed with 100, has treated over 925 patients. The Red Crescent hospital, operating on the basis of an emergency room as an extension to the Al-Amal hospital, has a capacity of 64 beds and a personnel of 120.
