Naftali Yonah Gordon

Naftali Yonah Gordon was born on December 24, 1990, in the United States, to Beatrice Miriam and Daniel Yigal. He was the fifth of six siblings, growing up with his brothers and sisters—Yaakov, Sarah, Shira, Rivka, and Dvash. At the young age of two, in 1992, Naftali’s family made Aliyah to Israel, settling in Jerusalem, where he would grow up with a strong sense of Zionism and love for his country.

Family Life

Naftali married the love of his life, Pesia, and together they built a beautiful family. They were blessed with two daughters, Libi and Gefen. Naftali was a devoted husband and father, known for his boundless energy and playful spirit. His mornings were filled with joy and mischief, bringing smiles to his family from the moment he woke up. He cherished every moment with his wife and daughters, always making sure they felt loved and cared for.

Military Service and Heroic Sacrifice

On October 7, 2023, as Israel faced one of its darkest days during the Hamas attack, Naftali was called up for reserve duty. He served as a First Sergeant in the 53rd Battalion of the ‘Barak’ Brigade (188th Armored Brigade) in the Israel Defense Forces. Naftali was a dedicated and courageous soldier, always ready to put himself in harm’s way for the safety of his comrades.

On December 7, 2023, Naftali fell in battle during intense fighting in northern Gaza. He was among the brave soldiers who risked their lives to defend Israel from the terrorist threat. His actions under fire were a testament to his bravery and commitment to his fellow soldiers. Naftali’s wife, Pesia, expressed her deep love and admiration for him, saying, “You were perfect. We both believed that there was no choice—we have no other country, and someone has to defend our home.”

Professional Life and Personal Achievements

Naftali was a highly skilled physiotherapist, working for Clalit Health Services in Jerusalem. He was known for his dedication to his patients and his colleagues, often taking on roles and responsibilities beyond his years. His professionalism, combined with his humble and approachable demeanor, made him a beloved figure in his workplace. Naftali’s potential was limitless, and he was on the verge of starting a course in process management and clinical training, furthering his already impressive career.

Legacy and Remembrance

Naftali’s untimely death left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and community. His mother, Beatrice, tearfully eulogized him, expressing the pain of losing such a remarkable son. She spoke of his love for swimming, his passion for running, and his dedication to helping others, qualities that defined his life. Naftali’s sister, Shira, remembered him as a true friend and a loving brother who always had a special connection with everyone around him.

Naftali’s colleagues and friends described him as a talented and humble individual, someone who was always willing to help others and share his knowledge. His leadership and caring nature extended beyond his professional life, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Naftali Yonah Gordon was a hero, both in his everyday life and in his final moments. His sacrifice is a stark reminder of the price paid by those who defend their country and loved ones. His memory will forever be a source of inspiration and pride for his family, friends, and the people of Israel.

Final Resting Place

Naftali was laid to rest with full military honors at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem. He leaves behind his wife, Pesia, his two young daughters, Libi and Gefen, his parents, and five siblings.
