Aid Efforts and Updates from Gaza (May 16-17)
Truck Inspections and Aid Routes
A total of 365 trucks were inspected and transferred to the Gaza Strip yesterday (May 16). The Kerem Shalom and Erez crossings are open, and aid is arriving in Gaza via multiple routes: from Jordan, the Ashdod port, and Judea and Samaria.
Coordination Requests
On May 16, the following coordination requests were processed:
- Out of 46 general coordination requests, 31 were approved.
- Out of 11 coordination requests to northern Gaza, 7 were approved.
- Out of 12 UN coordination requests, 7 were approved.
Since January 1, 2024, 87% of all coordination requests have been approved.
Healthcare Improvements
Nasser, Al Amal, Indonesian, and Kamal Adwan Hospitals, which were previously operated by Hamas (using patients as human shields), are now back in operation, treating patients again. These hospitals, along with the Al Ahali Hospital, are part of our plan to facilitate and improve the healthcare system in Gaza, in cooperation with the international community.
Field Hospitals
As of May 17, there are currently 8 operational field hospitals in Gaza.
Airdrops of Humanitarian Aid
On May 16, 45 pallets containing tens of thousands of packages of aid were airdropped into northern Gaza.
Bread Production
Currently, 26 bakeries are operational in Gaza, providing close to 5 million breads, rolls, and pita breads daily.
Evacuations
So far, 3,272 injured and sick individuals and 725 escorts have been evacuated from the strip.
Water Supply Restoration
The northern water pipeline from Israel and the Bani Suheila line are now fully operational.
Humanitarian Pause
Today, May 17, between 10:00 and 14:00, the IDF will pause operations in the Al Majida neighborhood in Khan Yunis to enable the movement of humanitarian aid.
